A Hospital-Based Influenza Immunization Program, 1977-78
David S. Fedson and
Harold A. Kessler
An influenza immunization program on General Medicine inpatientand outpatient units immunized a greater proportion of patientsthan did physicians on medical subspecialty units. Many patientshospitalized with influenza and other respiratory conditionshad been discharged earlier in the year or seen in outpatientclinics. Previous hospital care may be a useful marker for identifyingmany high-risk patients who could receive influenza vaccinein organized programs for hospital-based immunization.
