Analysis of 1980-1985 death certificate data for the UnitedStates indicated that an average of 369 occupational deathsper year involved agricultural machinery as the external causeof death. Out of all agricultural machine-related deaths, tractorsaccounted for 69 percent. Over half of these tractor-relateddeaths were rollovers. There is a need for public health programsto affect greater use of rollover protective structures (ROPS)on farm tractors.
