Data from the 1990 Panel Study of Income Dynamics were usedto predict, by means of logistic regression, the likelihoodthat people who had previously driven would continue to driveand to drive after dark after 50 years of age. The results supportthe conclusion that driving patterns appear to be explainedpartly by a combination of sociodemographic factors and healthstatus. Furthermore, it is shown that those reported to drivefor nondrivers appear to be the same individuals known to providemost informal support for functionally impaired elderly people.
