Developing an evidence base for making public health decisionswill require using data from evaluation studies with randomizedand nonrandomized designs. Assessing individual studies andusing studies in quantitative research syntheses require transparentreporting of the study, with sufficient detail and clarity toreadily see differences and similarities among studies in thesame area. The Consolidated Standards of Reporting Trials (CONSORT)statement provides guidelines for transparent reporting of randomizedclinical trials.
We present the initial version of the Transparent Reportingof Evaluations with Nonrandomized Designs (TREND) statement. These guidelines emphasize the reporting of theories used anddescriptions of intervention and comparison conditions, researchdesign, and methods of adjusting for possible biases in evaluationstudies that use nonrandomized designs.
