    INTRODUCTION
 
The last few years have been a time of enormous activity for the American Public Health Association (APHA) and the Journal. APHA has endured political and fiscal adversity, adopted a global public health mission, worked through staff departures and subsequent hires, and embraced a change in leadership with the appointment of Georges C. Benjamin, MD, FACP, as its newest executive director.
