Unabashedly, I confessto being a recovering former state and local health official.During my recent transition into academia, public health practicehas continued to be my reference point for making meaningfulcontributions to the broader public health field. This issueof the Journal on the "business" of public health has only servedto reinforce the vigor of my long-held views. Moreover, thisoccasion presents an opportunity to share some developing thoughtson how public health practice might better be incorporated intothis venerable publication, while still preserving its appealto a wider public health audience.
