The current global financial crisis has provided a compelling lesson on the interdependence of our global community. Just as commodities traded on the New York Stock Exchange impact employment in rural China, so do health inequities and failures of public health in Tanzania or Guatemala reflect our collective failure as a global community.
The current economic crisis has grave implications for global health. As incomes fall, people on lifesaving medications in hard-hit sub-Saharan Africa may no longer be able to afford the cost of their treatment. As currencies are devalued and the costs of medications rise, societies may encounter challenges
