As a teacher and mental health counselor, I have an interest in any
research of the northeastern tribes, mainly capecod (wampanoag, montauk,
pequot and any other northeastern tribe). Having nieces of the wampanoag
tribe, I am interested in knowing the history of such research if any and
having worked in the mental health field, can attest that domestic
violence is high due to poor eduction, alcoholism and drug abuse, and
possibly tribal laws not protecting women.
Have the above tribes being recognized by the Bureau of Indian Affairs?
Why is it that women cannot have laws protecting them from offenders from
another tribe? and especially one that has sovereign status.
If a tribe does not have recogniiton by the government, is it eligible for
health care, education and financial assistance?
finally, is the Montauk tribe part of the Mohegan tribe or a linkage from
it?
Thank you for your response.
