AJPH Online SUBSCRIBER HELP & SERVICES:
Frequently Asked Questions
about APHA Member Access

All APHA members receive online access to the American Journal of Public Health as a free member benefit.

  1. Will I need a password? May I share my password with friends, or is use limited solely to me?

Yes, when you activate your AJPH Online access, you will be asked to create a user name and a password. You are the only one permitted to use this password.

  2. What if I forget my password?

We have instructions for what to do if you forget your user name or your password. Details about how to do this will be included as part of the subscription process or click here.

  3. Why should I activate my member subscription to AJPH Online?

APHA members who activate their online subscription have access to tables of contents, abstracts, full text searching, full text display, document delivery, PDFs, links to Medline, future tables of contents, interjournal links to other HighWire Press journals, and the advantage of having password access to AJPH Online from any computer connected to the Internet.

Without activating your subscription you have access to tables of contents, abstracts, and full text searching at no cost and without having to register.

  4. How do I know if my institution has subscribed?

If your institution has a paper subscription, it may have an electronic version of the Journal as well. If so, you will automatically have access to the tables of contents, abstracts, full text searching, full text display, PDFs, Medline, and future tables of contents. You will also see a button at the top of the page confirming you are signed in as part of an institution.

If your institution does not have a paper subscription, it can subscribe to Print plus Online, Print Only, or Online Only Institutional Access. If you would like to have an institutional subscription, please contact your local librarian.

  5. Will I still be able to get the paper version? And for how long?

Regular, Contributing and Retired members will continue to receive the paper version for the foreseeable future as long as their membership is renewed. Student, Special Health Worker, and Consumer members receive online access only.

  6. How can I access AJPH Online if I am not an APHA Member, not a personal subscriber, and I do not have access through an institutional subscription?

You may wish to apply for APHA membership or you may wish to purchase a [Click here for the 2009 Subscription Brochure]

print subscription, which provides access to the electronic version, or an Online Only Subscription. Without a subscription you have access to tables of contents, abstracts, and full-text searching (without full-text viewing) at no cost and without having to register. You may also access our pay-per-view and site pass options.

  7. How do I become a member of APHA?

You can submit an application online at www.apha.org/membership, or email membership.mail{at}apha.org for more information.
